Switching from WA Web Plus to Kaption

Kaption covers the WhatsApp Web tools people install WA Web Plus for, such as blurring chats, locking the screen, themes and scheduled messages, and adds AI: voice notes as text, summaries, live translation and a connection to Claude and ChatGPT.

Why people switch

Most people who install a WhatsApp Web extension want privacy on screen and fewer manual steps. Kaption does both, and then reads your voice notes for you, sums up long chats and translates as you type. It is free to install and start, and the paid plans have public prices.

How to switch

  1. 01

    Install Kaption

Add Kaption to Chrome or Edge from the store, or download the Kaption desktop app for Mac or Windows. Your chats stay where they are: both extensions work on top of WhatsApp Web, so there is nothing to export or import.

  2. 02

Turn off WA Web Plus while you try Kaption

Two extensions changing the same WhatsApp Web page can get in each other’s way. In chrome://extensions, switch WA Web Plus off, reload WhatsApp Web, and turn it back on later if you need it.

  3. 03

    Set up privacy

Turn on privacy mode to blur names, photos and messages when people are around (hover to peek), and screen lock to protect WhatsApp Web with a PIN or password when you step away.

  4. 04

    Recreate your scheduled messages

Open each chat, write the message and pick the date and time. Kaption can repeat a message or a reminder daily, weekly or monthly. Scheduled messages are on Basic (five a week) and Pro (unlimited).

  5. 05

    Try the AI tools

Tap Aa on a voice note to read it, open a long chat and ask for a summary, and turn on live translation in a chat with someone who writes in another language.

What maps to what

Blurring chats

Privacy mode blurs names, photos and messages. Hover to peek.

Locking WhatsApp Web

Screen lock asks for a PIN or password and locks itself when you step away.

Themes

Ten theme colors and your own chat background.

Scheduled messages

Once or on repeat, from WhatsApp Web or the desktop app. The computer must be on at the send time.

Several WhatsApp numbers

The Kaption desktop app (Mac with Apple silicon, Windows 10 or 11) runs several numbers in one app. The browser extension works with the WhatsApp Web session you have open.

What you gain

Voice-note transcripts and search, summaries, live translation in 36 languages, reminders, snooze, chat and contact export, and an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor.

Plan and limits

Free: unlimited standard transcriptions, privacy mode, screen lock, reminders and one translation session a week, with everything included for your first 60 days. Basic adds unlimited summaries and translation and five scheduled messages a week; Pro adds unlimited scheduling, call recording and smart transcription. See plans and prices

Questions

Will I lose my chats if I switch?

No. Your chats live in WhatsApp. Both extensions only change how WhatsApp Web looks and works, so removing one and adding the other doesn’t touch your messages.

Can I keep both extensions?

You can, but two extensions changing the same page can conflict. If WhatsApp Web behaves oddly, turn one of them off.

Are my scheduled messages moved over?

No. Scheduled messages in another extension stay there. Recreate the ones you still need in Kaption before you remove it.

Does Kaption work in Firefox or Safari?

No. The extension runs in Chrome and Edge, and the desktop app runs on Mac with Apple silicon and Windows 10 or 11.
