On-device transcripts

Keep processing local
Enable local processing separately for transcription and translation. With cloud fallback off, a local failure does not upload that task’s audio or text to Kaption’s processing servers.
Cloud, only when you choose it
You can use server processing instead. If you enable cloud fallback, a failed local task may send the required audio or text to Kaption’s servers; the app shows a notice. Review this choice for each account.
Cloud fallback controls are available in supported newer app versions. Earlier local-only versions return an error instead.
Local Apple processing requires macOS 26, compatible Apple Silicon hardware and supported, prepared language assets. Availability varies by task and language. Model downloads, WhatsApp connectivity, account services and updates still use the internet. Other AI tools are not all local.

Record WhatsApp calls
The desktop app can record your WhatsApp calls on macOS and Windows, and keep a transcript of who said what. The browser extension never records calls.

Turn it on once
In Settings › Call recordings, choose Every call, Only when I press Record, or Off for each WhatsApp number. A number that has not chosen yet records, and the bar asks: Always, Only this call, or Don't record.

A red bar while it records
The call shows a red Recording bar with the running time and a Stop button. The first time, it reminds you to tell everyone on the call. Your own side follows WhatsApp's mute button.

Saved when the call ends
The recording stops with the call and lands in your Downloads, in a Kaption Call Recordings folder, named after the person and the time. Both sides are mixed into one audio file that plays anywhere.

A transcript of each side
Kaption keeps a separate two-track copy, so each side is transcribed on its own and every turn shows who spoke. On a Mac it can run on your own machine; otherwise Kaption Cloud does it, depending on your plan. You can search across your recordings and their transcripts.
No screen recording to allow: Kaption uses the call's own audio inside the app and the microphone WhatsApp already opened.
Recording rules differ from country to country. Tell everyone on the call before you record.

Before you download
Which Mac do I need?
This download is for a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). There is no Intel Mac version. Windows has its own download.
Which PC do I need?
Windows 10 or 11 on a 64-bit PC. There is an installer for Intel and AMD (x64) and one for Windows on ARM. No Linux download is offered.
Can I record WhatsApp calls?
Yes, in the desktop app on macOS and Windows, not in the browser extension. In Settings › Call recordings, choose Every call, Only when I press Record, or Off for each number. Recordings are saved to your Downloads with a transcript of each side, and you should tell everyone on the call before you record.
Do I need the Chrome extension?
No. The Mac app runs Kaption's tools inside WhatsApp Web on its own, so you don't need Chrome or the extension.
Do I need a new number?
No. Link your existing WhatsApp numbers to Kaption, then switch accounts in the app.
