Pick a folder
Choose any folder once. Pick one inside iCloud Drive, Google Drive or OneDrive, or an external drive, and that service keeps the file in sync like any other file.
Kaption keeps one password-encrypted copy of your WhatsApp chats in a folder you pick, like your iCloud Drive or Google Drive folder, and adds only what changed, every hour. Lose your phone or your account, and your history is still there to read and search.

WhatsApp's own backup lives with your phone and only comes back when you restore it to a phone. Kaption keeps a separate copy on your computer, locked with your password, that you can open and search on any computer, whenever you need to look back at what was said.
Choose any folder once. Pick one inside iCloud Drive, Google Drive or OneDrive, or an external drive, and that service keeps the file in sync like any other file.
The backup is encrypted with a password you choose. Nobody, not even Kaption, can open it without that password, so keep it somewhere safe.
Every hour, Kaption adds only what changed to the same file. If nothing changed, nothing is written. You can also press Back up now.
The viewer opens a backup in a new tab and looks like WhatsApp: every chat, search across messages and voice-note transcripts, and previews of photos, videos and documents.
The file is locked on your computer before it is saved. Kaption never receives the file or the password, and there is no recovery if the password is lost.
Kaption does not sign in to iCloud or Google Drive. It writes the encrypted file into the folder you chose, and your cloud app syncs it.
Voice-note transcripts are part of every backup, so you can search what was said in a voice note, not just what was typed.
Once a message is in your backup, it stays there, marked "Deleted in WhatsApp" if someone deletes it later.
A backup opens on any computer with Kaption and its password. The desktop app can remember a backup password with Touch ID.
The viewer decrypts the backup in memory and shows it read-only. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is sent back into WhatsApp.
Export a backup of your chats with messages and voice-note transcripts, and open it in the viewer.
Hourly backups to your folder, and media in the backup: photos, videos, voice notes and documents.
Yes. Pick a folder inside your Google Drive or iCloud Drive folder when you set up the backup. Kaption saves the encrypted file there, and Google Drive or iCloud syncs it to the cloud like any other file.
No. The backup is encrypted with your password on your computer, and Kaption never receives the file or the password. That also means nobody can help you open it if you forget the password.
No. Kaption backups are for viewing and searching your history on a computer. To move chats to a new phone, use WhatsApp's own backup.
Every chat of the WhatsApp account: messages, contacts, groups, labels and voice-note transcripts. On paid plans, photos, videos, voice notes and documents too. Notes are not included.
The Kaption desktop app for Mac and Windows, and the Kaption extension in Chrome and Edge. In Firefox you can export a backup and open it, but hourly backups are not available.
On paid plans, every hour while Kaption is running, adding only what changed. You can also press Back up now at any time.
