Your AI app
Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another MCP client asks for something, like "summarize today's Sales group".
Kaption relay
mcp.kaptionai.com checks your sign-in and passes the request along. It cannot read your messages.
Kaption on your computer
The extension in WhatsApp Web, or the desktop app, runs the request against your WhatsApp and sends back only the answer.
Cloud connection
Works with any AI app that can add a remote MCP server (often called a custom connector) and sign in with OAuth.

Open Kaption on your computer
Use WhatsApp Web in Chrome or Edge with the Kaption extension, or the Kaption desktop app. Sign in to Kaption.

Turn on the connection
In the extension, open AI Assistants (MCP), choose Cloud Bridge and click Enable. In the desktop app, switch on Cloud MCP in Settings.

Sign in with a code on WhatsApp
Enter your phone number, type the 6-digit code Kaption sends you on WhatsApp, and choose how long the AI app stays connected: while you use it (it disconnects after 90 days without use), for 1 year, or until you disconnect it.
Local connection
Prefer to keep the connection on your computer? The local server talks to Kaption over localhost. It needs Node.js 18 or newer.
- Open WhatsApp Web in Chrome or Edge with the Kaption extension, and turn on the MCP bridge in its settings. In the desktop app, switch on Local MCP in Settings.
- Add the server to your AI app with one of the snippets below.
- Several WhatsApp numbers can be connected at once, and several AI apps can share the same connection.

Summarize
Summarize a conversation. The summary is private to you.
Organize
Archive, pin, mute and mark chats read or unread, leave a draft, manage lists and reminders. Labels and notes on WhatsApp Business.
Schedule
Schedule a message to one person, up to 800 characters, which Kaption sends at the time you set.
What it cannot do
- Send a message right away. It can only schedule one you asked for.
- See chats you locked in WhatsApp.
- Work while Kaption is closed. The extension in WhatsApp Web or the desktop app has to be open.
- Send bulk or unsolicited messages. Our terms forbid it, and we rate-limit access.
Built so you can check it
- The connection is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time.
- The relay is open source, and every deploy is signed and recorded in a public log.
- Sign-in uses OAuth with a single permission scope, and access tokens expire after an hour.
- Reminders and scheduled messages are stored in Kaption Cloud so they can fire on time. Your messages are not.

Questions
Which AI apps work with it?
The cloud connection works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth. The local server works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed and other clients that run local MCP servers.
Can the AI send WhatsApp messages?
Not right away. It can schedule a message to one person when you ask it to, and it can leave a draft for you to send.
Do my messages go through Kaption servers?
With the cloud connection, requests and answers pass through the relay at mcp.kaptionai.com, which cannot read your messages. With the local connection, nothing leaves your computer except what your AI app itself sends.
How do I disconnect an AI app?
Turn the connection off in Kaption, or remove the connector in your AI app. If you chose "while I use it", the connection also ends after 90 days without use.
Does it work with the desktop app?
Yes. The Kaption desktop app has Local MCP and Cloud MCP switches in Settings.
Does it cost anything?
MCP access depends on your Kaption plan. The extension shows what your plan includes.
