TL;DR
- To record WhatsApp calls on a computer: Kaption Business (US$19.99 a month, or US$11.99 a month billed yearly). It records the audio of WhatsApp voice and video calls and transcribes each side separately. Every account has it in its first 60 days; after that it isn't on Free or Pro.
- The other 15 extensions: none advertises call recording in the sources we checked. Each is good at something else, and we list what below.
- To log chats into a CRM: Cooby, Eazybe or TimelinesAI. Cooby's "record important WhatsApp conversations" means saving messages to the CRM, not call audio.
- For bulk sends and broadcasts: WA Web Plus, WA Bulk Message Sender or Premium Sender. Kaption doesn't do bulk messaging, by design.
- For scheduling to groups: WAScheduler. Kaption schedules to one-to-one chats only.
Kaption is our product; we list where others are better.

How did we check the 15 extensions?
We read each tool's Chrome Web Store listing and its own website or pricing page on November 3, 2026, and noted whether WhatsApp call recording is offered. We picked the 15 by install base and relevance to WhatsApp Web, and dropped tools that were dead or tiny. We didn't install each one and test it, so a "no" here means "not advertised in the sources checked". Store figures are what each listing showed that day; the Chrome Web Store rounds user counts.
How does Kaption record WhatsApp calls?
Kaption records the call's own audio inside the app where the call happens: the Kaption desktop app for Mac and Windows, or WhatsApp Web with the Kaption extension in Chrome or Edge. It's part of Business, US$19.99 a month (US$14.99 billed every 3 months, US$11.99 billed yearly), with 2 WhatsApp numbers. Every account has it in its first 60 days of Business; after that it isn't on Free or Pro.
How it works, in short:
- Pick a mode per number. In Settings › Call recordings, choose Every call, Only when I press Record, or Off, separately for each WhatsApp number.
- Talk as usual. A red bar shows the running time and a Stop button. The first time, it reminds you to tell everyone on the call.
- Get the file. In the desktop app, each call is saved as a standard .m4a file to Downloads › Kaption Call Recordings, named after the contact and the time. In the extension, recordings are kept in your browser, where you can download them or choose a folder for a copy of each new one.
- Read who said what. Each side is transcribed separately and labelled. Automatic transcripts are off until you turn them on.
What it doesn't do: it records audio only, so the picture of a video call isn't kept. It records WhatsApp calls only, not phone calls or other apps. It needs no screen-recording permission: the other person's voice comes from WhatsApp's call playback and yours from the microphone WhatsApp already uses. The desktop app runs on Macs with Apple silicon and on Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, where it's an early beta. The extension works in Chrome and Edge, not Firefox or Safari.
On a Mac with macOS 26, call transcripts can run on the computer with the Mac's built-in speech recognition. On Windows they run in Kaption Cloud. Kaption has about 50,000 users and a 4.8 rating from 5.5K ratings on the Chrome Web Store. Full details are on the call recording page, and there's a step-by-step guide to recording WhatsApp calls on Mac and Windows.
What do the other 15 extensions do instead?
Each of these is a real tool with a real job; call recording just isn't one it advertises. Here's what each does well, its limits, and its price as of Nov 3, 2026.
WA Web Plus (by Elbruz Technologies)
The most installed WhatsApp Web add-on, with 2,000,000 users and 4.7 from 52.8K ratings. It's known for privacy tools and deleted-message restore, and its paid plans add broadcasts, smart replies, scheduled messages and exports. Starter is $14.99 a month. Call recording isn't advertised in the sources checked. A different extension uses the same name, so check the developer before installing.
Privacy Extension For WhatsApp Web
Free and MIT-licensed, with 1,000,000 users but a 2.7 rating from 1.2K ratings. It blurs messages, previews and media until you hover, and says it collects nothing about you or your messages. It does blur only: no screen lock, and call recording isn't advertised.
WA Bulk Message Sender (WAWebSender)
A free bulk sender with 200,000 users and 4.8 from 2.7K ratings. It sends from Excel, to group members one by one, with intervals and pause and resume. It mentions a Pro plan without a price. Call recording isn't advertised.
Pragmaz for WhatsApp Web
A Brazilian sales suite with 100,000 users and 4.2 from 3.6K ratings. Free tools include HTML chat export with media; paid plans add Kanban CRM, campaigns and scheduled statuses. Basic is R$151.24 a month (R$120.99 on annual). Call recording isn't advertised.
WAExport (WA Chat Export)
Focused on export, with 80,000 users and 4.9 from 7.3K ratings. It exports chats to HTML, Excel or CSV by date range, and contacts and group members to Excel, CSV or VCF. Media export needs its Max plan, whose price isn't published. Call recording isn't advertised.
WAPlus CRM
A lightweight CRM layer with 70,000 users and 4.9 from 4.1K ratings. The free plan includes custom tabs, some translation, 3 schedulers, broadcasts and an auto-reply; Starter is $12.99 per user. Call recording isn't advertised.
Blueticks
A scheduler with campaigns and an AI support agent, with 60,000 users and 2.6 from 406 ratings. Basic is $9 per user a month ($7 billed yearly); sending with the computer off is on Pro. Call recording isn't advertised.
Eazybe
WhatsApp-to-CRM sync for B2B sales teams, with 30,000 users and 4.2 from 1.1K ratings. Starter is $19 per user a month, after a 4-day trial. Its Basic AI plan lists voice AI calling, but WhatsApp call recording isn't listed in the sources checked.
Cooby
HubSpot sync plus tabs, snooze and reminders, with 20,000 users and 4.5 from 137 ratings. Extension Pro is $9.99 a month. Its listing says "record important WhatsApp conversations", which means logging messages to the CRM, not recording call audio.
WAScheduler
The deepest scheduler here, with 20,000 users and 4.6 from 1.7K ratings: groups, unsaved numbers, recurring rules, retries and cancel-on-reply. Prices aren't published on its site or listing. Call recording isn't advertised.
WA Web Translate (by WADesk)
Free real-time translation with a choice of engines, with 9,000 users and 4.9 from 250 ratings. It can also translate voice messages. Call recording isn't advertised.
Premium Sender
A free bulk sender, with 8,000 users and 4.9 from 2.4K ratings. It sends personalized messages from an Excel file. No paid plans are published. Call recording isn't advertised.
Transcribe WhatsApp Audio with AI
A single-purpose transcriber with 7,000 users and 4.9 from 304 ratings. It adds transcripts under each voice note automatically and says transcription happens in your browser. Pricing isn't published. It transcribes voice notes, not calls.
WA Audio & Voice Message to Text (WASBB.COM)
Another transcriber, with 5,000 users and 4.5 from 952 ratings, automatic or one-click. Pricing isn't published. Call recording isn't advertised.
TimelinesAI
A shared team inbox for many WhatsApp numbers with deep CRM sync, mostly used as a web app; the extension has 3,000 users and 4.2 from 14 ratings. Starter is $35 per seat a month ($28 billed yearly), with a 10-day trial and no free plan. Call recording isn't advertised.
Doesn't WhatsApp record calls by itself?
No. WhatsApp has no record button on any device. The usual workaround is a screen recorder, which needs screen-recording permission, captures whatever is on your screen, and gives you a video file with no transcript.
Is it legal to record a WhatsApp call?
It depends on where you and the other person are. Recording laws differ by country and state, and many places require everyone on the call to agree. Kaption doesn't notify the other person, so it reminds you the first time you record. Ask first, every time, and check the rules that apply to you.
When Kaption isn't the right pick
Kaption isn't the answer for every WhatsApp job, and for some of them another tool on this list is better:
- You want to message many people at once. Kaption doesn't do bulk messaging or campaigns, and its terms forbid it. Look at WA Web Plus, WA Bulk Message Sender or Premium Sender.
- You need a CRM or a team inbox. Kaption isn't a CRM. Cooby, Eazybe, TimelinesAI and WAPlus CRM log chats and track deals.
- You schedule to groups or need messages sent with the computer off. Kaption schedules to one-to-one chats only, needs the computer on, and has no scheduling on Free after the first 60 days (Pro allows 5 a week; Business is unlimited). WAScheduler covers groups; Blueticks Pro sends from the cloud.
- You want to record calls for free. Call recording is free only in your first 60 days; after that it's on Business.
- You need the video of a call. Kaption keeps the audio only.
- You use Firefox, Safari, Linux or an Intel Mac. The extension works in Chrome and Edge, and the desktop app runs on Apple silicon Macs and Windows 10/11.
FAQ
Can a Chrome extension record WhatsApp calls?
Yes. The Kaption extension records WhatsApp calls in WhatsApp Web in Chrome and Edge, on the Business plan. It asks for no extra browser permission, and recordings are kept in your browser, where you can play, search, transcribe and download them.
Do any free extensions record WhatsApp calls?
None of the 15 we checked advertises call recording, free or paid. Kaption's call recording is on Business, US$19.99 a month (US$11.99 a month billed yearly), and in every account's first 60 days.
Does Kaption record video calls?
It records the audio of WhatsApp voice and video calls. The picture isn't recorded.
Where are the recordings saved?
In the desktop app, in Downloads › Kaption Call Recordings, one .m4a file per call that never overwrites an older one. In the extension, recordings stay in your browser; download any of them, or choose a folder once and Kaption saves a copy of each new recording there.
Does the other person know I'm recording?
Kaption doesn't send the other person anything. That's why it reminds you to tell them, and why you should ask before you record.
Can Kaption record regular phone calls?
No. It records WhatsApp calls only, made in the Kaption desktop app or in WhatsApp Web with the extension. It doesn't record phone calls or other apps.
Which computers does call recording work on?
The desktop app runs on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and on Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, as an early beta. On other computers, use the Kaption extension in Chrome or Edge.
It means call recording isn't advertised on their Chrome Web Store listing or website as of November 3, 2026. We didn't test each tool, so we can't say it's impossible.
