# Switching from another transcription extension

> Using a single-purpose extension to transcribe WhatsApp voice notes? Kaption transcribes for free, without limits on the standard model, and adds summaries, translation and search.

If you installed an extension only to read WhatsApp voice notes as text, Kaption does that for free, with no cap on standard transcriptions, and puts summaries, search, translation and scheduling in the same place.

## One extension instead of several

Many people end up with one extension for transcripts, another for privacy and a third for scheduling. Kaption covers all three in WhatsApp Web and the desktop app, with about 50,000 users and a 4.8 rating from 5.3K reviews on the Chrome Web Store.

## How to switch

1. **Install Kaption.** Add Kaption to Chrome or Edge, or download the desktop app for Mac or Windows.
2. **Turn off the other transcriber.** Two extensions adding buttons to the same voice notes can clash. Switch the old one off in chrome://extensions and reload WhatsApp Web.
3. **Pick your language.** Kaption detects the language, or you can set one per chat. It covers 36 languages, including Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, German, Turkish and Chinese.
4. **Read a voice note.** Tap Aa on any voice note to read it in the bubble, or turn on automatic transcription so new voice notes arrive as text.
5. **Save your old transcripts.** Transcripts made by another extension stay in that extension. Copy or export the ones you need before you remove it.

## What you get beyond the transcript

- **Search voice notes:** Matching transcripts show up in WhatsApp’s own search, so you can find what someone said.
- **Summaries:** The gist of a long voice note or a whole chat in a few lines.
- **Smart transcription:** On Pro, transcription learns the names and brands you use, so they come out spelled right.
- **On the phone, too:** On Pro, the Kaption app for iPhone and Android, which also receives the transcripts made on your computer.
- **Privacy:** In the desktop app, on supported hardware, you can transcribe on the device and switch cloud transcription off.
